Compress PDF: help & limits
How to use
- Choose an unencrypted PDF.
- Compress and wait for page checks.
- Compare sizes and download. If no space is saved, keep the original.
Examples
- Compact a text report saved without compressed object streams.
- Check a scanned invoice; keep the original if its images are already compressed.
Formats and limitations
Compacts PDF objects. It does not downsample images, remove visible content or guarantee savings. Text and 300-pixel page previews are compared before download; these checks cannot prove every rendering detail is identical. PDFs that need stronger image compression may not shrink.
PDF input and output only. Up to 500 pages total; two-minute processing limit; 100 MiB output limit. Complex documents may fail even within these limits. Review the result before sharing.
Privacy and troubleshooting
Files and outputs stay in browser memory. Processing libraries and fonts load from Reqly; documents are not uploaded. Reset releases file references and cancels work. Downloads remain on your device.
If processing fails, try fewer files or a smaller, unencrypted PDF. The original is unchanged. No server fallback is used.
How local processing worksWill my text stay selectable?
This method keeps PDF content rather than converting pages into pictures. It checks extracted text before offering a rewritten result.
Why is my PDF the same size?
Many PDFs already compress their objects and images. If the rewrite is not smaller, the untouched original is offered. No claimed saving is invented.
