Image cropper: help & limits

About this tool

Keep the useful part of a photo or screenshot without stretching it. Start with a centered crop, choose a shape, and move the frame over your subject. You can resize from the bottom-right corner or enter exact pixel bounds. A separate result preview shows what your downloaded crop will contain.

How to use

  1. Choose an image and select Free, Square or an aspect-ratio preset.
  2. Drag the frame to move it, or its bottom-right corner to resize. Arrow keys move; Alt plus arrows resize. Exact crop fields are also available.
  3. Choose Crop image. Further changes update the result; check the output and download when ready.

Supported files

JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC, BMP, still GIF · 64 MiB · 64 megapixels. One image at a time. Maximum 16,384 pixels per edge and 128 MiB output.

How it works

Crop coordinates refer to the decoded, orientation-corrected image. Left and top locate the rectangle in pixels; width and height determine the output size. The selected source rectangle is copied without enlargement and encoded in JPG, PNG or WebP. HEIC, AVIF, BMP and still GIF export PNG. JPG/WebP use quality 92.

Examples

A square product photograph

Choose Square for a 1,600 × 1,200 photo, then move the frame over the product. The crop removes surrounding pixels instead of stretching the photo into a square.

Remove a screenshot border

For a 1,000 × 600 screenshot with a 20-pixel border, enter left 20, top 20, width 960 and height 560 under Exact crop.

Limitations

  • Cropped-out pixels are absent from the download. Keep your original to change the framing later.
  • Presets use whole-pixel rounding. Manual exact fields can change the aspect ratio. Cropping does not change print DPI or remove objects inside the selected area.
  • Still images only. HEIC, AVIF, BMP and GIF export PNG. JPEG and WebP re-encoding is lossy; metadata and exact color-profile behavior are not guaranteed. The crop preview requires additional local memory.

Privacy

The crop editor uses a local image preview and the output is created in a browser worker. Coordinates and image content are not sent anywhere or retained in browser storage.

Common questions

How can I crop without dragging?

Focus the image and use arrow keys to move, Alt plus arrows to resize, and Shift for ten-pixel steps. Or open Exact crop and enter left, top, width and height.

Does cropping shrink everything in the image?

No. It keeps a rectangular region at its existing pixel scale. Use the image resizer to scale the whole image.

Does a transparent PNG stay transparent?

Yes, the PNG output retains supported alpha within the selected rectangle.
