Image resizer: help & limits

About this tool

Set the pixel dimensions an image needs for a document, online listing, or presentation. Keep the original proportions to avoid stretching, or unlock them when you intentionally need another shape. Reqly shows the resulting dimensions and file size before download, and keeps the original format when the browser can encode it.

How to use

  1. Choose your image. Width and height reflect its decoded orientation.
  2. Enter a width or height in pixels. Keep original proportions enabled to calculate the other dimension automatically.
  3. Review the updated preview and download the resized copy. Unlock proportions only if stretching is intentional.

Supported files

JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC, BMP, still GIF · 64 MiB · 64 megapixels. One image at a time. Maximum 16,384 pixels per edge and 128 MiB output.

How it works

With proportions locked, the other dimension equals the new dimension multiplied by the original opposite dimension, divided by the original changed dimension, rounded to a whole pixel. Canvas resampling creates the requested pixel grid. JPEG and WebP are re-encoded at a fixed quality of 92; PNG uses lossless pixel encoding. Use the image compressor if you also need to adjust quality.

Examples

Landscape image for a slide

A 4,032 × 3,024 photo becomes 1,600 × 1,200 when you enter width 1,600 with proportions locked.

Portrait for a document

A 3,000 × 4,000 portrait becomes 900 × 1,200 when you enter height 1,200 with proportions locked.

Limitations

  • Resizing does not crop. Unlocking proportions can stretch the image.
  • Enlarging adds pixels without recovering detail. Exact color profiles and embedded metadata are not preserved as a guarantee.
  • This tool changes pixels, not print DPI settings. File size is measured rather than guaranteed.
  • Still images only. Unsupported browser decoders or encoders produce an error without uploading the file.

Privacy

Dimension checks, resampling, and output encoding run locally. Resizing does not require a server copy, and changing a field does not send a request containing your image or settings.

Common questions

Why does the other dimension change?

Keep original proportions is enabled by default. It preserves the width-to-height ratio, with whole-pixel rounding.

Can I resize a transparent PNG?

Yes, transparency remains in PNG output. The checkerboard is only a preview background.

Will making an image bigger make it sharper?

No. The browser interpolates new pixels; it does not recover detail that was absent in the source.
