WebP to JPG: help & limits
About this tool
Make a still WebP image usable in a form, document, or older app that expects JPG. Choose your image and Reqly creates the JPG automatically, keeping its pixel dimensions. Transparent areas become white. Compare the result with the original before downloading; conversion changes the format, not the detail already present in the picture.
How to use
- Choose one still WebP image. Animated WebP is not accepted.
- Wait for the local JPG result, then compare edges, text, and colors with Original.
- Download the JPG. For smaller dimensions or a different compression level, use the related tools.
Supported files
Still WebP · Up to 64 MiB · 64 megapixels. One image at a time. Maximum 16,384 pixels per edge and 128 MiB output.
How it works
The browser decodes the WebP and applies its decoded orientation. A worker draws the pixels onto a white canvas and encodes JPEG at quality 92. Reqly checks the resulting JPEG signature and pixel dimensions before offering a download. Quality is an encoder setting, not a percentage of detail retained.
Examples
A product photo for a listing
Convert a 1,600 × 1,200 WebP product photo for a listing form that requires JPG. Its output stays 1,600 × 1,200; inspect small product lettering before using it.
An illustration for a document
A 900 × 900 WebP illustration with a transparent background becomes a 900 × 900 JPG with a white background. Choose WebP to PNG instead if the transparent edges must remain.
Limitations
- JPEG is lossy and cannot store transparency. Fine text or sharp edges can change after encoding.
- Animated WebP is rejected rather than silently converted to one frame. Color profiles and source metadata are not preserved as a guarantee.
- The JPG can be larger than the original. Conversion is not an exact-size compressor, and low-memory devices may fail below the displayed limits.
Privacy
File bytes and the generated JPG stay in browser memory. Only website code is downloaded. The selected filename and image are not sent with those requests. Start over releases the image references and preview URLs held by Reqly.
Local processing explainedCommon questions
Why did my transparent background turn white?
JPG has no transparent pixels. This tool fills them with white before encoding. Use WebP to PNG when transparency matters.
Is JPG different from JPEG?
They are filename extensions for the same image format. Reqly uses .jpg for this download.
Why is the converted JPG larger?
The original WebP may store the picture more efficiently. The result size is measured, not promised to be smaller; use the compressor if a smaller file matters more than changing format.
